This comes a bit late since I submitted the application on 14th Jan’11, which was the last date for Round 2.

Due to …………. blah blah blah ………. I got late in posting this.

Well, Oxford! The first thing which comes to mind upon hearing the name of Oxford is The Great Old Oxford Dictionary. I think most of use or may be many grew up using that dictionary!Ā  Atleast, I have a hard copy of it till date šŸ™‚

Coming back to Said Business School, Oxford –

Pros:

  • 1 year advantage
  • Oxford brand name
  • London advantage – hub of major activities – pretty descent place to live-in šŸ™‚
  • Descent ranking – It slipped last year but I think it’ll bounce back
  • etc

Cons:

  • Doesn’t consider application without TOEFL scores (you’ll know why is this a con for me soon)

On the essay part, nice interesting essays:

1. Explain why you chose your current job. How do you hope to see your career developing over the next five years?

Have a story for choosing your current job. Try to relate it to your short/long term goals. Actually, the 5 year timeline is quite specific. They don’t expect you to give a generic answer answer of being an entrepreneur or having a consultancy firm or private equity in the long term etc, but in the next 5 years.

Got lots of words – think and write

2. Which recent development, world event or book has most influenced your thinking and why?

This is different from what other b schools ask in their essay questions. This is where creativity creeps in – the word limit is ~ 1000 words – so take all the time in the world to pick one thing first – event/book? Then think what was your opinion before that event happened or reading that book? What happened after the event took place? What compelled you to think so deeply? How did it change your thinking? Was it a radical change? Why were you affected so much by it? Did you learn anything by it? Have you changed the way you think? Have you taken any steps to address any issues which you found? etc etc etc ……..

In short, the Admissions Committee will have a holistic view of your thinking process post this essay, and that’ll decide whether they want to invite you for an interview (ofcourse, other things occupy their due place)

Rest is mostly the same as other schools – scans, uploading, achievements, awards, work, extra curriculars, 2 recos etc etc …

I think this is most of it!

Hoping for a positive response from them! šŸ™‚

Cheers!
