Soupy Sunday!

 

Okay! It’s not the winters which threatened me to serve myself a bowl of rich creamy delicious chicken soup or else face dire consequences BUT…. Yes, it’s a BIG but…  BUT it’s a Soupy Sunday when you find yourself in a not-so-delicious soup.

Here is what happened:

Yours truly hasn’t written TOEFL or IELTS yet (status at the time of writing) and no-one knows why! The application deadline for B schools are just at a stone’s throw away and this is what I call a Soupy Sunday.

Then you open your eyes, look around and see what can be done. You find out the 1/8/11 was the last date at *all* the centers in India where you could have written the TOEFL and the next available date is 1/22/11. You figure out that IELTS is also one of the tests you can write to prove your English competency!

btw, amidst all this drama, a question popped up in my mind; not a new question but some thousands might have asked the same before too. Why do we have to write TOEFL when each B school asks for a certain number of essays to be written? Is that not a test of English! Possibly they fear that applicants can get their essays written by someone else and hence, need a strong reason to believe that English won’t be a barrier, should we be admitted.

Anyway, coming back to IELTS. Now yours truly checks out the available IELTS date and finds out that 1/15/11 is the first available date, which still falls after the deadline.

Now what?

Now you begin writing emails to the Admissions Committee mentioning your Soupy Sunday Situation in ‘English’ :P, and asking whether your application would still be accepted in that respective deadline. And not forgetting to ask what is the best possible way to go about that.

Here it goes – email 1, email 2, email 3 (saved in drafts, to be sent after posting this). Hoping for a positive reply from the Adcom.

In short, the conclusion of Soupy Sunday is “Get your affairs in order”. Period.
